Dee-1: “The first time I saw B.G. and Turk was in a Walmart. I was there with my dad and we were just getting some groceries and B.G. and Turk were there and I thought Elvis had come to the building! I even remember what they wore: They both had on white wife-beaters, they had all their tattoos showing, all their jeans sagging and their boxer-shorts showing, and they had on some Reebok tennis shoes. All this was going on and I was like, “Man, I got to get their attention somehow…” So I held the door open for them when they was walking out ‘cause they bought a dollhouse — it must have been for one of their daughters — so I held the door open and B.G. said “Thank you.” I remember that! They hopped into a black Mercedes Benz and left.”

Roach Gigz: “I love crab. Like, I really fucking love crab. I used to be all excited about Red Lobster, until one time I went with my grandma and she just completely shit on the crab they were serving. She said we could get much better and fresher crab at the pier. I ended up taking her advice, and since then I have never stopped. The addiction is crazy. People make fun of me because I have a little belly and can’t eat a lot, but when it comes to crab, there is no sharing or leftovers going on. I destroy it, all of it. My favorite stand is the Alioto’s stand, because they know me and hook me up with the extra legs and claws and all that.”

Through those after-school sessions, Vasquez and Trackademicks considered forming a standalone group. “We never got to recording anything,” recalls Vasquez, “but it was [Trackademicks’] brother and this other chick, so kinda like an R&B group that was inspired by the first N.E.R.D. album, kinda like a Kelis thing.”
