DaVinci, Gentrification, And The G-Train’s Replacement Bus Service

It’s great to see DaVinci’s “What You Finna Do?” song and video getting a good reception. It’s a thoughtful, carefully executed concept and deserves the shine.
I met up with him while he was in New York recently for an SF Weekly article – an interview that went down over an hour late due to the jolly fun and games of the G train’s replacement bus service. Luckily, DaVinci still hung around, although instead of taking a walk around a similarly-gentrified NY area to add some context to the interview it ended up going down in a McDonald’s, complete with a drunken old Polish guy trying to interject every two minutes.
The album’s being released in both free download and retail versions (apparently to be available at shows). Incidentally, DaVinci looks absolutely nothing like the illustration of him that adorns the cover of the album…
